No matter how big of a tech “nerd” you might be, it seems that there are always a few tips and shortcuts that go unnoticed. In fact, for most users, there’s always a shortcut or a simplified way of doing something with an app or tool that we rely on.
Unless you’re extremely up-to-date on the tech that we all use on a daily basis, chances are that you’re doing something the hard way, or that you’re missing out on being able to access features that you didn’t even know you could. But thankfully, there are plenty of tips and tricks out there that anyone can search and find.
As we humans are always looking to make our lives easier, it’s a good practice to adopt any trick for tech that you can find, especially since our tech is constantly being upgraded and advancing.
In the following, we’ll explore a few popular tricks for operating tech that you may haven’t heard of before. And they may just make your tech experience more enjoyable.
Sideloading a Device
While most of us are aware of how to use a streaming device such as a Roku or an Amazon Firestick, many users are unaware of the many upgrades that are possible with these devices. And one such method for upgrading involves the process of sideloading.
For example, when you sideload a Firestick, you can add apps that aren’t available on the device. And this allows you to use just one streaming device for all of your favorite apps.
Sideloading is essentially the process of loading content that isn’t available on a particular device for your own personal use. And by following a guide, you can easily sideload all the media you want through a straightforward process.
Additionally, sideloading can also be done with smartphones as well. And this process also offers a few other benefits:
- No wireless data charges
- No restrictions on content
- No geographic limitations
- Ability to optimize content for any mobile device
While sideloading is often referred to as jailbreaking, this practice is simply for modifying a device to suit the user’s needs.
Voice Dictation
From virtual reality to voice dictation, all of our wishes are coming true with modern tech. And many people have already figured out that you can talk by text on most smartphones, enabling you to send messages without having to type out every word you want to say. But just as many people don’t know that you can also use this type of feature with Google Docs.
If you rely on Google Docs for work, or for writing any type of content and you’re tired of pecking away at the keyboard, enabling Voice Typing within the Google Docs Tools menu is all you have to do.
This feature is currently free, however, it’s only available in a Chrome browser.
Additionally, Voice Typing also recognizes common voice commands such as “comma” or “new paragraph” as well. But of course, you’ll want to proofread your work after typing through dictation, or if you need to add additional headers, media, and other elements to your content page.
Unsending Emails
Most people who regularly send out business emails have experienced the horror of sending an email to the wrong person. And though sometimes this can be a completely innocent mistake, it also looks unprofessional within a business setting.
Additionally, sending the wrong email can also ruin your chances of landing clients, or of keeping correspondence with others if you send anything sensitive to the wrong individual. However, if you have Gmail, this isn’t an issue.
Yes, within Gmail, you can “unsend” an email. First, you’ll have to adjust your email settings, and Google has a tutorial that can assist you with setting up this feature.
Unsending an email with Gmail will allow you to modify the contents of the message, fix spelling errors, subject lines, or you can even add attachments if you forgot to attach anything important to your email.
It’s also important to note that the unsend feature is time sensitive. But Gmail allows a user to set a timer for up to 30 seconds during which you’ll have the ability to retrieve your message, modify it, and send it properly once you’re finished fine-tuning the document.
We have a plethora of technology available to use for a variety of applications that many of us rely on each day. And learning the tricks to use all of these tools to your benefit can greatly assist you and make your life a bit easier in the process.
