Full Spectrum CBD

The CBD industry is still in the early stages. While many people have tried CBD, far more people aren’t familiar with the terminology and terms used to differentiate different types of cannabis products. One of the most essential terms in the industry is full spectrum.

In this article, we will cover why full-spectrum CBD is so critical to understand when making a purchase. After reading, you will be an informed consumer and will be able to choose the perfect type of CBD for your lifestyle.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

CBD in its purest form possible is a full spectrum hemp extract containing an array of cannabinoids and terpenes. Full spectrum products have a small concentration of THC, which must fall under 0.3% potency to be considered cannabinoid hemp. Products with over 0.3% THC must be sold in a marijuana dispensary.

Full spectrum differs from other forms of CBD because it contains THC. Broad spectrum products contain other cannabinoids such as CBC oil and terpenes; however, THC is left out in the extraction process.

Isolate CBD is another form of cannabidiol extract THC-free but doesn’t contain any other compounds from the original hemp plant.

Full spectrum CBD is the most popular form of CBD extract. However, if you are concerned with using THC, we suggest trying a broad spectrum or CBD isolate. While the amount of THC in a full spectrum CBD product won’t get you high, it is enough to trigger a positive drug test.

What are the Benefits of Full Spectrum CBD?

The benefits of full spectrum CBD are aligned with the typical advantages of using CBD but are said to be profound when using CBD with other cannabinoids and terpenes. Full spectrum users and cannabis researchers agree that a full-plant extract is the best way to take CBD.

The most famous scientific study looking at a full spectrum oil vs. an isolate was done in 2015. Researchers found that taking CBD with an array of cannabinoids and terpenes was more beneficial in combating swelling. The article was the birth of a cannabis theory known as the entourage effect.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The entourage effect is the idea that CBD will deliver a better experience including more benefits if taken with other cannabis compounds. Using full spectrum and broad spectrum products will create this phenomenon, while CBD isolate is a less beneficial type of extract.

While we are far from understanding the entourage effect, anecdotal accounts supported by studies like the Jerusalem study suggest that CBD should be taken with other cannabinoids.

Types of Full Spectrum CBD Products

Any CBD product can be full spectrum. The process is done during extraction and later infused into the full spectrum edible, sublingual oil, topical, or vape liquid.

Other types of cannabinoid extracts can also be full spectrum. For example, CBN oil is rising in popularity. The same classifications apply to this specific type of hemp extract, even though CBD isn’t the primary cannabinoid. In addition, the entourage effect also applies. In fact, research suggests that CBN doesn’t have any benefits if it isn’t taken alongside THC; however, the research on minor cannabinoids is limited.

How to Find the Best Full Spectrum CBD Oil?

Finding the best full spectrum CBD oil starts with identifying a reputable retailer. Once you know what type of CBD fits your lifestyle, start looking at companies that provide 3rd party lab tests. You will be able to determine the quality of the products by checking cannabinoid and terpene potency tests.
