Rob Mac, the star and co-creator known for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” is teaming up with acclaimed producer Noah Hawley to bring Ubisoft’s popular “Far Cry” video game series to television.

The new live-action series is set to air on FX and stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. This adaptation promises to capture the spirit of the games with an anthology format, switching characters each season, just like the games do.

Ubisoft’s “Far Cry” franchise, launched in 2004, is famous for its vast open-world settings and thrilling narratives featuring unique characters and memorable villains. The TV series aims to mirror this structure by offering fresh stories each season in different exotic locations—from Montana and Nepal to Central Africa and even the Stone Age—reflecting the diverse scenes of the games.

Rob Mac expressed his excitement about the project, calling it a dream come true to explore such a complex and iconic video game universe. He will also star in the series alongside his duties as executive producer.

Mac praised Ubisoft for their generosity in trusting him and Hawley with this beloved franchise. His previous collaboration with Ubisoft included the acclaimed but now-cancelled video game-themed show “Mythic Quest.”

Noah Hawley, known for his work on “Fargo” and “Alien: Earth,” highlighted the appeal of “Far Cry” as an anthology series that lets each season vary its theme and setting. This approach resembles “Fargo,” where Hawley crafted different stories under a unifying concept.

Hawley noted that the show will dive into complex and chaotic themes, exploring the nature of humanity amid action and danger. Fans of thrilling, location-driven dramas are in for a treat.

While details on the exact storyline and release date remain under wraps, anticipation is high given the creative talent involved and the rich narrative possibilities the “Fan Cry” universe offers.

Fans can expect fresh seasons with new characters and settings, much like the games’ pattern, potentially ranging from the tropical islands of Micronesia to the rugged wilderness of Montana or even prehistoric times from the “Far Cry Primal” edition. With Rob Mac’s charm and Hawley’s visionary storytelling, this adaptation could bring a new dimension to one of gaming’s most beloved franchises.

In conclusion, the “Far Cry” TV series is shaping up to be a bold and ambitious project. It will offer a blend of action, drama, and suspense across its anthology seasons. With Mac starring and executive producing alongside Noah Hawley, fans of the game and top-tier television alike should watch closely for further announcements. The collaboration promises a unique translation of the video experience to the small screen that could captivate both games and TV audiences.
