Trying to convince yourself that these true crime films are only movies will not work. Keep the doors locked and get ready for chills.

We understand that choosing a great crime movie can get frustrating at times, especially with so many options out there. However, we have done the research for you and made a list of the best movies you can watch on TV.

But for that, you also need to have the right channels to enjoy watching movies on cable. Just like old times! If you are looking for amazing cable deals, Spectrum cable TV has some amazing ones. You have the option to customize your channel list and binge-watch your favorite crime movies.

Anyway, below are the top 10 crime movies you should definitely watch this season:

Table of Contents

  • Foxcatcher (2014)
  • Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
  • Spotlight (2015)
  • In Cold Blood (1967)
  • Reversal of Fortune (1990)
  • From Hell (2001)
  • 1922
  • Summer of Sam (1999)
  • Monster (2003)
  • Badlands (1973)
  • Conclusion

Foxcatcher (2014)

As the sociopathic inheritor of the du Pont fortune, Steve Carell gives an Oscar-nominated performance. Mark and Dave Schultz (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo), siblings who won Olympic gold medals in wrestling, are recruited by du Pont to begin a training camp on his estate sometime in the 1990s. However, his obsession with the brothers and the sport turns dark. The fascinating true crime film Foxcatcher depicts wealth, thrill, madness, and a struggle for victory at any cost.

Bonnie and Clyde (1967)

In this timeless true crime film, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway portray real-life lawbreakers Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) and Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty), who committed bank robberies and murders during the Great Depression. The uncompromising portrayal of corruption and ferocity in Bonnie and Clyde was thought to be revolutionary.

Spotlight (2015)

Assembly of Boston Globe reporters known for thorough exposés in the real world is the subject of this Best Picture Oscar winner. The film is centered on a team’s investigation into systemic child sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests in the Boston area during the early 2000s. Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, and Mark Ruffalo play the devoted fact-finders.

In Cold Blood (1967)

In Cold Blood, Truman Capote’s non-fiction book about a Kansas family murdered by criminals in their home, made readers shudder. The movie adaptation does not disappoint. Scott Wilson and Robert Blake play the Murders in In Cold Blood, released in 1967. As well as its flashback structure, the film’s black-and-white cinematography adds a sense of eeriness.

Truth is stranger than fiction, as these true crime books show.

Reversal of Fortune (1990)

There are not a lot of true crime films that can boast casts like this! Claus von Bülow (Jeremy Irons, an Oscar-winning actor) was a Danish socialite accused of attempted murder in the late 1970s. How did the crime happen? Sunny (Glenn Close), his American wife, fell into a coma after allegedly taking too much insulin. Was Sunny’s coma caused by a mistake or did Claus put her there in order to get her wealth?

Watch the movie to find out.

From Hell (2001)

As a police investigator trailing Jack the Ripper in Victorian England, Johnny Depp plays the role of the detective in this slasher film. It has never been proved conclusively who Jack the Ripper was. It is believed that he targeted women in the Whitechapel neighborhood of East London. The film’s fate slightly differs from that of real-life victim Mary Kelly, played by Heather Graham.

1922

In the movie, Jane plays a farmer who writes a confession of an unforgivable crime as he approaches the end of his days, and most of the movie is told in flashbacks. Doing A Thing will hit you with the realization the moment you see Thomas Jane doing it within the first 60 seconds. As for his performance, it is absolutely batshit in the best way possible. In fact, I would say that he is really quite good. Almost no matter the results of what he is done, his taint taints everything around him. The story is tense and fast-paced enough to hold your attention.

Summer of Sam (1999)

David Berkowitz goes on a murder spree in this Spike Lee flick. Berkowitz killed six people and injured seven others in the middle of July 1976 and July 1977. He was known as the “Son of Sam” killer. In August of that year, he was finally caught and is presently serving six sequential life sentences. John Leguizamo and Adrien Brody star as two men trying to figure out what their lives mean during that disreputable summer of fear.

Monster (2003)

In her depiction of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, Charlize Theron won the Best Actress Oscar. Her victims all appealed to have been men she slaughtered in self-defense due to the difficult upbringing Wuornos experienced. This film delivers a surprising look at Wuornos’ ruined mankind and severe mental illness-one that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

Badlands (1973)

Created on Charlie Starkweather’s murder spree across Wyoming and Nebraska in the late 1950s, Terrence Malick’s Badlands is a movie directed by Martin Sheen and starring Sissy Spacek. Starkweather, who was 19 years old at the time of the killings, was accompanied by a girlfriend who was just 14 years old. There is no doubt that Badlands is well-known for its portrayal of lush Midwestern scenery, which juxtaposes sharply with its horrific crime plot and strange love story.

Conclusion

Finding the perfect crime movie with a compelling story can be a little difficult. However, the aforementioned list of movies can make the whole experience exciting and convenient. Let us know in the comments section below which movie you pick. Also, if you have to add to the movie suggestion list, feel free to.
