TThe newest season of Netflix’s The Witcher has been released- but with one major difference. Henry Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia as the lead actor, has been replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
The Jumping Ship has replaced the last two seasons of the fantasy hit, which are based on a successful series of novels and video games.
This is not the first time that British actor Cavill has played the title role of a monster hunter who possesses supernatural powers as the White Wolf. It was not universally positive when he declared in October 2022, when handing over the torch to Hemsworth, that he was a fantastic actor.
Others even vowed to boycott the series without the Hemsworth has confessed that Cavill is a daunting figure to replace. Critics have been divided with the US magazine, Variety, declaring season four an upgrade and the Guardian declaring Hemsworth as charismatic as a bollard wearing a wig.
Why has Henry Cavill left the Witcher?
The fact that Henry Cavill is a fan of nerd culture is no secret, and he has been very vocal about his live of video games, sci-fi and fantasy. No formal reason has been provided as to why he has left The Witcher but it has been assumed that it had something to do with creative differences.
He has talked in interviews of being faithful to the source material and the need to not change Geralt to anything different than what he is in the books.
Since exiting, he has since scored a job as a producer and lead in an upcoming series based on Warhammer 40,000 on Amazon – a series which he has been said to have described as a dream role.
TV Editor at Metro, Sabrina Barr, reveals that Henry Cavill was the ideal Geralt, and that it was initially shocking to see Hemsworth playing the role. However, she informs the Newsbeat that he does a good job and he is a brave person when he took up the character.
In October 2022, when Henry Cavill stated that he would not star in the fourth season of Netflix series The Witcher, which he stars in, fans were alarmed.
Without Cavill, “The Witcher” would not fall apart. It does not necessarily come back to the ashes of his departure into a new and better series, either. It is still the type of high fantasy that will satisfy the fans and baffle the newcomers and include enough violence in each episode to keep the senses going. It is identical, just a bit different.
